Stone wool was discovered at the beginning of the 20th century

The story begins in Hawaii, an island known for its volcanic activity. During an eruption, experts noticed that the lava turned into fine fibres once it cooled. Scientist called these ‘Pele's hair’ in reference to the volcano goddess.

Scientists discovered that these fibres had excellent insulating properties. Then they found a way to produce these fibres using volcanic rock to create the raw material.

Today, a wide range of OEMs uses stone wool as insulation thanks to its premium performance.
