In the early 1930s, Henrik Kähler, a member of the Danish Kähler family, made a remarkable discovery during a study trip abroad. While visiting an industrial site, he saw molten volcanic rock being spun into fibres, creating what we now call mineral wool, with unique properties for insulation, fire protection, and noise reduction.
Back in Denmark, he had only one idea in mind: reproduce and refine this process using local basalt rock. This vision became reality in 1937, with the official creation of ROCKWOOL. Since then, the company has been turning volcanic rock into stone wool insulation: a durable, sustainable material used to improve fire safety, thermal performance, and acoustic comfort in buildings and industrial applications worldwide.
Over the decades, ROCKWOOL has expanded across the globe, with operations in more than 40 countries and products that shape safe, comfortable, and sustainable living and working spaces.
It was in 2009 that ROCKWOOL Core Solutions was established, born from the Group’s expertise to provide tailored stone wool components for industrial and construction markets. We are proud to be part of the ROCKWOOL Group and to carry forward its legacy of innovation, quality, and sustainability. Explore our journey, from our creation to the global presence we hold today.
